On Course Part II

On course

As my journey to the promise land continues, I gain new purpose. The naked soles of my feet have hardened, now accustomed to the unruly ground on which they tread.

The roads less traveled become even more dangerous and I face new obstacles and challenges. My vision becomes cloudy, the future questionable and murky, I lose trust in my instincts and block out the music which accompanies me on my journey.

I meet bad strangers and lose the new friends that I’ve made. I curse the wind for not sending a map and compass to guide me to my destination.

But when my hope dwindles to the last drop, unexpected sources appear like angels and encourage me to keep going…until I have reached the mountaintop…

On Course

With nothing but the clothes on my back,

I journey to the promise land,

Keeping my vision clear in order

To see the future.

The soles of my shoes become worn and break.

Barefooted, I keep on walking,

Going wherever the wind takes me.

I take the roads less traveled, with no map or compass,

Encountering strangers and making new

Friends along the way.

The road is long and narrow with no promised land in sight.

My hope dwindles--only for a moment--as encouragement comes from

Unexpected sources.

I keep on, occurring obstacles that test me;

My instincts are constantly sharpened.

Alone, I continue towards my destination, with Rock, Jazz, Rhythm and Blues as my only companions.

New Poem I Wrote Tonight

When you stay wide awake till the wee hours of the early morn and text back and forth....

When you meet up and chat and you leave much happier than when you had arrived...

When you take an evening stroll and then sit on a bench and talk, arms wrapped each other's back in a park...

When you look deep into each other's eyes and say things without even uttering a word...

You know you've got something...

I’m a Lady Who’s a Geek: Deal With It

So I wasn’t gonna write about this topic, I was just going to ignore it completely but I can’t. It’s a new year (Happy New Year folks!), and I’m extremely sick and tired of this nonsense. What is it that I’ve had enough of? This and this. The belief that girls aren’t into comics and the belief that girls who are into geeky things are fake. I’m going to keep this short and get to the point.

Last year we’ve heard and read countless articles about fake geek girls and then a few days ago I saw the trailer for the new episode of The Big Bang Theory where it cites “And the girls go… where no woman has gone before…” That broke the camel’s back for me. How long will it take for you guys and girls (because yes there are some ladies who unfortunately have this belief) out there to get it through your thick skulls that geek girls exist! We like comics, sci-fi, playing videogames, watching Doctor Who, and a bunch of other interesting and cool stuff. Why is this so hard to accept?

I’m a Black Jewish lady who loves comics, anime, manga, video games and other stuff. What? I guess it’s going to be hard for some of you accept that but that’s the truth. Do I know everything there is to know about comics and other geeky stuff? No and I don’t have to be a geek, and neither should any other lady or girl out there. We shouldn’t have to be quizzed or accused of being fake or have our status in the geek world challenge (i.e. Felicia Day) because we’re not interested in something that you’re interested in or we don’t know about that particular subject.  I mean I doubt any of you guys who have this ignorant belief know everything there is to know about the geek universe. How about I give you a quiz? Everyday I learn new things and I share what I know with others and they share what they know with me so we learn and we enjoy being geeks. Why can’t you?

Oh and I enjoy going to the comic book shop. In fact it is I who would have to drag my boyfriend to the store because he doesn’t read American comics, he reads manga.  And he’s never been in a comic book store. My local comic book store treats me like a human being (oh my goodness!). They know my name and they’re always there to help. They’re almost part of my family. A few days before Christmas, I lost one of them suddenly. Her name was Tory and she was the co-owner of the store. I’ve talked to her anytime she was in there and she was a nice lady who shared my love of the color purple and comics...

What? You say,  ‘A woman owned a comic book store?’ Oh yes indeed! And I have friend who’s worked at a couple of comic book stores, and she’s even been a manager. I follow a lady on Tumblr who’s a manager at a comic book store in Washington D.C. and one day she blogged about guys coming into the store quizzing her about her knowledge of comics. If she’s working at a comic book store and she’s a manager I take it that she knows comics!

It’s a new year this isn’t the middle ages anymore. So that means no more threatening a lady geek who’s doing a kickstarter to make videos about video games, no more fake geek girl accusations, and no more of this “And the girls go… where no woman has gone before…”
Enough of this shit. Enough or I might have to get my own Lucille and bash you with it. Let’s see if you get that comic book reference. If you didn’t you’re not a geek. *Note: the italics are used for sarcasm.*

I’m a lady who’s a geek. Fucking deal with it.

How Akira set me up with my boyfriend.

So as of two days ago I have a boyfriend. It didn't happen overnight though. It all started in August and it was all due to Akira.

That's right, Akira the classic anime film is how I met my boyfriend. He's a hardcore anime and video game lover. And he spoke to me about how happy he was that my job had the film. And then we talked about anime and then emailed each other said hi and had conversations whenever we saw each other.

He first asked me out back in August but I told him I needed to get to know him a little better plus I was worried about the 10 year age difference-he's 21 I'm 30.

So this week after talking to friends on Twitter and giving it a huge thought, I told him I would go out with him.Yesterday we had lunch and he asked if he could hug me, and I was like 'you don't need to ask me that' and so he hugged me, walked me back to work and hugged me again.

Also at lunch, he told his friends that he has a girlfriend, and his frietnds were soo happy for him (one even high fived him!) and then he told them that I was right behind them and they were so happy. They're young adults who love anime and well it was cute you had to be there to understand the cuteness of it.

Today I told my mom and sis about him and they're okay with it (him being younger) as well as his mom.

Alright so yes you won't hear me complain about relationships for a while (I hope) NOR will you see me write about being in love and all that stuff.

Later!

It's been awhile, update!

Sorry it's been a while since I posted anything. I've been busy, tired, and frustrated. But I'm back! and here are a few things:
I'm a contributror to six sites now. The newest is Media Junk Food. They're on Wordpress. I do enjoy writing, especially about comics. You can check out my writing journey into the comic book industry on Tumblr: Diary of a Novice Comic Book Writer.
I need a new computer, I need an external hard drive, and a new printer.
I'm financially in a bind. I'm gonna be behind on my credit card payments. I have to help out with the bills at home since my mom's recovering from being sick so things are hard-they've always been but we'll get through it.
I'm learning how to draw. I'm on Deviant Art::http://taliadina.deviantart.com/. I'll be taking an art class in the fall.
I won a prize pack from comic book writer Justin Gravy (DC's All-Star Western) so I'm excited. I've won a couple of geeky things this year. I still haven't received my Jem season one dvd yet and I won that in February...
I've come to the conclusion that I should just not worry about love. There are times when I want to be alone and then there are times when I want to be with someone….
I love comics and I’ve become more interested in writing and reading about comics since last year thanks to Womanthology.
Necrocalia is coming along. Check out the production blog on Tumblr.
Things have changed in a way since 2011 and most of it has been positive and I thank Hashem. I just need a few more things to change for the better and all will be well with me and my family.
That’s all I have to say. Good night Shabbat Shalom.

7. I worry to the point where I get headaches.
